Proposals for the redevelopment of an underused agricultural site on the edge of the green belt.

The proposal for the regeneration of an existing farmyard provides over 30 new homes as well as commercial space for local small businesses in a development which sits sensitively in its context.

The proposed new buildings take cues from local rural and agricultural architecture to nestle within a landscape of farms and local listed buildings. The existing buildings of architectural merit on the site are retained and create a natural palette of materials and detailing for the new elements of the development.

The layout has been carefully considered to create a new neighbourhood that is both successful in its own right and within the local village surroundings. Spaces are informal, envisaged as a series of barnyard-like courtyards that enhance the sense of ownership and individuality of the new homes. A new community orchard on the site provides a much needed focal point for the village.

The proposal has been submitted for pre-application consultation, where the design was praised by the Local Authority as ‘exemplary’. A planning submission is anticipated in Autumn 2019.
